Breathing Life Into Flight Simulator 2020

My first experience with FS2020 was what I expected. It was playable and enjoyable but because of my hardware, absolutely not the picture perfect experience portrayed in all the launch trailers and recordings. But, I was content with that. I could play it and still enjoy it.

Then came the first major update since I started playing it. Everything changed. FS2020 went from being something that was playable to truly enjoyable. My FPS went from the range of about 15fps to around 30fps in rural areas. Even in cities like New York, the average was 20fps. Previously, I’d be happy to get 10fps.

My point with all of this is simple: you don’t need to buy a $3,000 computer with three monitors to play this game. Even if you have an older machine like mine (i5-6300, 16GB RAM, Geforce 960m) it can still be a very enjoyable experience, as long as you set realistic expectations.

For me, that means setting all the settings on Medium. It provides the best experience for me, both visually and from the perspective of playability. It’s also been enough for me to ditch the GamePass version and just buy game outright.

My point: you don’t need to have the latest and greatest to have a good time.

At the same time, I’ve seen plenty of people have the complete opposite experience, even those with significantly better hardware than what I have. What has your experience been, compare before and after the update?
